For a second consecutive season, the DP World Tour returns to Turkey for this week’s Turkish Airlines Open.

Up until last season, the Turkish Airlines Open was absent from the DP World Tour schedule despite being a mainstay between 2013 and 2019.

Last year’s installment was played at the Regnum Carya Golf and Spa Resort, which also hosted the event between 2016 and 2018. This year, the National Golf Club in Belek-Antalya, Turkey will play host for the very first time.

The Turkish Airlines Open will also serve as the final event of the DP World Tour’s ‘Asian Swing.’ The winner of the ‘Asian Swing’ will receive a $200,000 bonus, guaranteed entry into all ‘Back 9’ events, a spot in the Genesis Scottish Open and a place in the PGA Championship.

The Field

With two events until the PGA Championship and the end of the ‘Asian Swing,’ most of the DP World Tour’s biggest names will be teeing it up in Turkey this week.

The likes of Jayden Schaper, Andy Sullivan, Dan Bradbury, Julien Guerrier, Calum Hill, Daniel Hillier, Freddy Schott, Adrian Otaegui, Hennie Du Plessis, Nacho Elvira, Bernd Wiesberger, Eugenio Chacarra, Jorge Campillo and Angel Ayora help headline this week’s field.

With LIV Golf remaining idle until May 7th, David Puig, Elvis Smylie and Tom McKibbin will join the DP World Tour in Turkey this week.

Although at a different golf course, Martin Covura comes in as the defending champion, having topped Campillo and Haotong Li by two strokes to claim his maiden DP World Tour title.

The Course

Although hosting on the DP World Tour for the first time, National Golf Club also hosted the Ladies Turkey Open four times between 2011 and 2014 as well as the PGA European Turkish Seniors Open in 1996 and 1997.

The course opened in 1994 and was designed by David Feherty and David Jones.

It plays as a standard par-72 at approximately 7,290 yards.

The course is routed throughout gently rolling terrain and through mature pine and eucalyptus trees.

The snow-capped Taurus Mountains provide a picturesque backdrop, especially when the course itself is bathed in sunshine for the majority of the year.

Although listed at nearly 7,300 yards, suggesting distance off-the-tee will be the key, the fairways are framed by the aforementioned mature trees.

On top of that, the course features an abundance of lakes, coming into play on nearly half of the holes.

The greens are laid in Bermuda grass and are relatively small, at least to DP World Tour standards.

The greens are also well guarded by sand bunkers.

The Weather

As of the time of writing this, Thursday currently calls for just a ten-percent chance of precipitation. However, Friday is calling for a 55-percent chance of scattered thunderstorms. Saturday also calls for a 70-percent chance of thunderstorms. Sunday is calling for a 20-percent chance of precipitation. Temperatures will begin the week at 74-degrees on Thursday before dropping to 72-degrees on Friday and 66-degrees on Saturday. Temperatures will reach 69-degrees on Sunday. Winds will begin the week at 12 miles-per-hour on Thursday before dropping to ten miles-per-hour on Friday and nine miles-per-hour on Saturday. Winds will return to 12 miles-per-hour on Sunday.

Betting Card

Daniel Hillier (+2000)

First off, I would like to thank the LIV guys for playing this week as well as Hillier for missing the cut last week because we finally got a number worth betting Hillier at! I’ve been wanting to bet this guy weekly but his low odds never allowed for it. So here we are. Hillier is currently third on Tour in total driving, sixth in both SG: APP and SG: PUTT, tenth in bridie-or-better percentage, 13th in scrambling, 60th in par-five average scoring and 146th in sand saves percentage. As previously mentioned, he missed the cut last week at the Volvo China Open. Prior to that he placed 20th at the Qatar Masters, fourth at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship, 26th at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and second at the Dubai Invitational.

Eugenio Chacarra (+4000)

One of the ‘cream of the crop’ regulars on the DP World Tour settles in at 40/1 and I’m going to take that every time. He placed 33rd last week at the Volvo China Open and second at the Hero Indian Open. He is currently fifth on Tour in total driving, 26th in SG: APP, 34th in scrambling, 38th in par-five average scoring, 64th in birdie-or-better percentage, 80th in sand saves percentage and 112th in SG: PUTT. The putter will determine if Chacarra goes deep into Sunday or misses the cut. Only time will tell.

Wenyi Ding (+5000)

Ding has been in some great form as of late. He placed 25th last week at the Volvo China Open. Prior to that he placed 14th at the Hainan Classic, 29th at the Investec South African Open Championship and 23rd at the Magical Kenya Open. He is currently sixth on Tour in total driving, 12th in SG: PUTT, 13th in birdie-or-better percentage, 21st in par-five average scoring, 24th in scrambling, 91st in SG: APP and 144th in sand saves percentage.

Antoine Rozner (+5100)

Rozner was my first click this week. I just love how he matches up to this golf course. He is currently eighth on Tour in scrambling, tenth in sand saves percentage, 17th in SG: APP, 27th in par-five average scoring, 45th in total driving, 47th in birdie-or-better percentage and 69th in SG: PUTT. He placed eighth last week at the Volvo China Open. Prior to that he missed the cut at the Joburg Open but before that he placed 24th at the Investec South African Open Championship, 14th at the Magical Kenya Open and ninth at the Qatar Masters.

Anthony Quayle (+25000)

I’m going really deep for my long shot this week with Quayle. Nothing jumps off the page at me in terms of stats beyond the fact that he is above-average or average in each of the seven statistical categories I took into consideration this week. He is currently 17th on Tour in scrambling, 32nd in total driving, 36th in birdie-or-better percentage, 38th in par-five average scoring, 39th in sand saves percentage, 40th in SG: APP and 93rd in SG: PUTT. He placed eighth last week at the Volvo China Open and 41st at the Hero Indian Open.
