Out of the Rough: LIV Golf Virginia (2026)

As the future of LIV Golf remains in limbo, the 2026 season will continue on as scheduled with this week’s LIV Golf Virginia.

Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) has announced that it will be pulling funding for the Tour after the season. Additionally, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the governor of PIF and co-founder of LIV Golf, has stepped down as chairman of the tour.

Either way, LIV Golf Virginia will continue on as scheduled this week at Trump National Golf Club in Washington D.C.

This event was a part of the 2023 LIV Golf schedule, played at Trump National Golf Course as well. It has been omitted from the schedule until this year.

The Field

All of the LIV Golf Tour will return to action for the first time since LIV Golf Mexico City in the middle of April.

Harold Varner III won the 2023 playing of this event at Trump National Golf Club. He’ll be back to defend his title, three years later. 

Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau have each won two-of-the-last-four events. The rest of the Tour will look to disrupt the dominance the two have implemented this season.

The Course

The Championship Course at Trump National Golf Course will play host this week.

It is a Tom Fazio design that was opened in 1993.

It plays as a par-72 at a staggering 7,793 yards. The course plays even longer than the number on the scorecard suggests.

The course is laid out along the Potomac River in Washington D.C., with several holes playing directly along the water, especially around the turn. It too offers picturesque views throughout the entirety of the course.

Trump National Golf Course is known for its firm and fast fairways. Expect long drives this week with the run-out these fairways offer.

From there, golfers will attack the well-maintained bentgrass greens. They too are firm yet respective. 

The layout is known for its demanding mixture of both long and short holes. 

The Championship Course’s signature hole is the par-three 15th with “never get gold” views of the Potomac river. 

The 18th too includes the background of a scenic waterfall.

The Weather

As of the time of writing this, Thursday is calling for a 75-percent of rain. Friday is calling for just a five-percent chance of precipitation, Saturday a 30-percent chance of morning showers and Sunday a ten-percent chance of precipitation. Temperatures will begin the week at 65-degrees before bumping up to 66-degrees on Friday. Temperatures will drop to 64-degrees on Saturday before peaking on Sunday at 72-degrees. Winds will be the highest on Thursday at 12 miles-per-hour before dropping to ten miles-per-hour for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

David Puig (+1400)

Puig teed it up on the DP World Tour last week as he placed T18th at the Turkish Airlines Open. Most recently on the LIV Golf Tour, he was the runner-up to Jon Rahm at LIV Golf Mexico City. Prior to that he placed sixth at LIV Golf South Africa, 21st at LIV Golf Singapore, eighth at HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong, 51st at LIV Golf Adelaide and fourth at LIV Golf Riyadh. He is currently third on Tour in average driving distance, ninth in GIR% and 13th in both scrambling and putting average. Puig also placed T12th here in 2023.

Carlos Ortiz (+3300)

Ortiz is currently 13th on Tour in both average driving distance and putting average. He is also 21st in scrambling and 33rd in GIR%. He placed 17th in his latest outing on LIV at LIV Golf Mexico City. Prior to that he did play the Masters Tournament where he missed the cut. On the season he also placed eighth at LIV Golf South Africa, 21st at LIV Golf Singapore, sixth at HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong, 42nd at LIV Golf Adelaide and 13th at LIV Golf Riyadh. Ortiz also placed T12th here in 2023.

Harold Varner III (+6600)

Varner III was the winner of this event (under the name of LIV Golf Invitational DC) back in 2023 at Trump National Golf Club. On the 2026 season he placed 20th at LIV Golf Mexico City, ninth at LIV Golf South Africa, 28th at LIV Golf Singapore, 18th at HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong, 32nd at LIV Golf Adelaide and 39th at LIV Golf Riyadh. He is currently third on Tour in scrambling, 13th in GIR%, 23rd in putting average and 30th in average driving distance.
